WELLSVILLE — A Utah Highway Patrol trooper was struck by a vehicle Sunday afternoon while responding to a crash in Sardine Canyon.

UHP Sgt. Cade Brenchley was outside his vehicle checking on an accident on state Route 91 about 5 miles southwest of Logan when he was hit by a sliding car that had lost control shortly before 5:30, Highway Patrol officials said via the agency’s website.

Brenchley was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries to his head and lower extremities. His injuries are not considered to be life-threatening, UHP officials said, but he will spend the night in the hospital as a precaution.

Additional information about the speed of the vehicle that hit Brenchley or whether the driver was injured, was not immediately available.

State Route 91 was temporarily closed in Sardine Canyon between Brigham City and Wellsville while officials worked to clear the scene, but has since reopened.

Several other accidents with injuries have also occurred throughout the canyon Sunday; heavy snowfall may have been a factor, UHP officials said.
