MIDVALE — Two people were arrested Friday for investigation of felony child abuse after a doctor discovered their two young children were malnourished, police said Saturday.
Andrea Kendrick, 26, and Antoine Torrez Scott, 27, were booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on Friday, according to a booking report. Their bail was set at $100,000 each.
The charges stem from an investigation that began in September, according to an emailed statement from Unified Police Lt. Brian Lohrke.
The pair brought their two children, both under two years old, to a wellness check, Lohrke said. A doctor had concerns about malnourishment and neglect during the check.
He advised the couple to immediately take the children to the hospital, but they ignored the advice, according to Lohrke.
After several days without medical treatment, the State of Utah took custody of the children. They are now being given treatment and are recovering from malnourishment, according to Lohrke.
