CEDAR CITY — Two Las Vegas men have been arrested in connection with a string of burglaries that have taken place over the last three weeks, police said.

Kyle Pace Moody and Patrick Scott Beckwith, both 26, were arrested Thursday after multiple cars and homes in Cedar City were burglarized, Cedar City Police Sgt. Jerry Womack said.

He said items were taken from unlocked cars and homes. The burglars would take weapons, cash, credit cards, gift cards and other items left in cars, Womack said.

“These were crimes of opportunity,” he said.

The cards and cash were then used to make purchases in Washington, Utah and Iron counties, Womack said.

Cedar City Walmart employees had surveillance video of the men but had not been able to catch them.

On Thursday, an alert Walmart employee noticed one of the men back in the store and contacted police. When the employee confronted the man, he fled on foot, but police were able to catch him in the hills west of the Walmart, Womack said.

That man told police he was working with another man, and police arrested both men.

The men had been traveling north from Las Vegas, Womack said.

Womack commended the Walmart employee for his attentiveness.

“It was a good team effort,” he said.

Police have recovered some items that are still unaccounted for. People can contact Cedar City Police Detective Matt Topham to recover any items that may have been stolen.

The Cedar City Police Department may be contacted at 435-586-2955.
