OGDEN — One man was shot near the Ogden LDS temple Friday afternoon, but is expected to survive, police said.

The man was shot in the abdomen and taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening just after 4 p.m. Friday, according to Ogden Police Lt. Clint Christensen.

The shooting took place near 556 23rd Street in Ogden, just a few blocks away from the Ogden LDS temple, he said.

Police detained and interviewed multiple people Friday.

Witnesses provided conflicting stories, Christensen said. Some said there was one person with one gun involved in the shooting, but others said they saw many people leaving the scene from different apartments, according to Christensen.

It is not clear if the shooting was related to gang activity, or was the result of an angry confrontation between two people, he said Friday.

No other information was available about the circumstances of the shooting or the victim’s medical condition as of Saturday morning. This story will be updated as more information is released.
