MOAB — An Arizona man is dead after a Saturday afternoon crash on U.S. Highway 191 north of Moab, according to Utah Highway Patrol.

Randy Graymountain, a 46-year-old man from Fort Defiance, Arizona, died at about 5:46 p.m. Saturday when the car he was driving struck a minivan head-on.

Graymountain was heading south near milepost 140 on Highway 191, about 15 miles northwest of Moab, in a 2015 Nissan Versa, UHP officials reported on the agency’s website.

Graymountain crossed the center line into the northbound lane. It was not clear if he was passing another car.

The driver of a 2014 Chrysler Town and Country minivan crossed into the southbound lane to avoid the Versa, UHP officials said. The Versa then crossed back into the southbound lane and struck the minivan head-on.

Graymountain was declared dead at the scene of the crash, according to UHP officials.

All six passengers in the minivan were transported to Moab Regional Hospital. From there, three were flown and two were taken by ambulance to St Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado.

A sixth passenger in the minivan was flown to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City.

UHP did not provide information about the medical conditions or injuries of the passengers in the minivan.

Witnesses at the scene of the crash said Graymountain was speeding and recklessly passing other vehicles, according to UHP officials. Investigators were considering “impairment” as a factor in the crash.
