SALT LAKE CITY — Two men were injured in a shooting and possible stabbing in downtown Salt Lake City early Friday morning.

Police responded to reports of gunshots fired in the area of 800 West and North Temple at about 12:30 a.m.

They found a man lying in the grass, who had been shot, according to Salt Lake Police Lt. Dave Cracroft. The man was taken to Intermountain Medical Center in critical condition.

Police believe another man had been stabbed, Cracroft said. Friends drove him to a nearby hospital where he was in serious condition.

Police stopped a man who was running away from the scene. They took him into custody for questioning but believe he's a witness, not a suspect.

Investigators were trying to locate more witnesses to piece together what exactly happened.
