FARMINGTON — A brush fire above Farmington reached 100 acres Friday night, officials reported.
Winds blew the fire uphill and away from homes to the border of Fruit Heights and Farmington, said Dave Millheim, Farmington city manager.
The fire started near 1500 N. Compton Road around 5:30 p.m. Friday, and no structures are threatened. The cause of the fire is unknown, though Millheim said it most likely wasn't human-caused.
Though the fire got "extremely close" to several homes along Bella Vista Drive, Millheim said proper landscaping protected the properties.
"We want to thank those property owners who've had a defensible space around their house or it could've been a very bad situation," he said.
Millheim also warned people against flying drones in the area, saying officials already confiscated one drone.
"We can't afford to have these tankers and choppers up in the air with drones," he said.
Rocky Mountain Power reported more than 3,800 people are without power in Davis County. Officials expect to restore the power by 10:30 p.m.
About 40 firefighters are on scene, and no evacuations are in place.
