SANDY — A man died Saturday morning after falling roughly 500 feet down a cliff in Bells Canyon, Unified police said.

Zachery Zimmerman, 39, from Lehi, fell off a cliff while trail running with a friend up Bells Canyon around 9:20 a.m., according to Unified Police Department spokesman Lt. Brian Lohrke. The man and a friend were trail running for roughly three to four hours up the canyon before he slipped and fell.

Salt Lake County and Utah County search and rescue teams conducted the search, and Lifeflight dispatched two helicopters to assist paramedics in reaching Zimmerman's body. Police said his body was found at approximately 10:30 a.m. Paramedics pronounced Zimmerman dead on the scene, Lohrke said.
