SOUTH SALT LAKE — Sarah Meier, longtime member of the Granite School District Board of Education for the Taylorsville and Kearns area, is resigning from the school board to serve a church mission with her husband.

The school district is accepting applications to fill the Precinct 4 position resulting from her resignation after serving 20 years on the school board. The term ends in 2018.

The precinct covers large portions of Taylorsville and Kearns and includes Taylorsville High School, Kearns High School, Bennion Junior High and several elementary schools.

Anyone interested in filling Meier's unexpired term can apply to the superintendent’s office before 5 p.m. on Friday, June 2. Candidates are asked to submit a resume.

To qualify for the position, candidates must be U.S. citizens, have resided in the Precinct 4 boundaries for at least one year as of the date of their appointment, be a registered voter in the precinct boundary and must maintain their residence in the precinct boundaries during their term in office. Applicants are not required to disclose political party affiliation.

If the successful applicant is a Granite School District employee, they must resign their current position prior to appointment.

All applicants must fill out a declaration of candidacy form prior to submitting their name for consideration. To obtain the form, visit the Superintendent’s Office, in Room B-203 of the Granite Education Center, 2500 S. State.

School board members will interview qualified applicants during a board meeting at 7 p.m. on June 13. The board will vote to fill the vacancy at its meeting on July 11. The new board member will be sworn in Aug. 1.
