WEST VALLEY CITY — A homeowner and a suspected intruder were both shot during an early morning home invasion Monday.
Both men suffered injuries not considered to be life-threatening, according to police.
The violent series of events began about 3 a.m. when officers received a call of a domestic dispute involving a family's 18-year-old son, said West Valley police spokeswoman Roxeanne Vainuku.
The teen left his house before police arrived. A short time later, about a block away from his house, Vainuku said the 18-year-old "forced his way" into a house at 4158 W. 4400 South. Police believe the house was picked at random.

Inside the house there was some type of "altercation" between the homeowner and 18-year-old and both were shot, Vainuku said. Details about what transpired inside the house were not immediately available.
The suspected intruder was taken to a local hospital. The homeowner's injuries were minor, she said, to the point that police didn't even initially realize he had been shot. The homeowner was listed Monday in good condition.
Information about where both men were shot was not available Monday morning. Vainuku said detectives were looking into the possibility that the 18-year-old was under the influence of drugs at the time.
Additional information will be posted as it becomes available.
