SALT LAKE CITY — A woman is in critical condition after the vehicle she was driving was struck by a wrong-way driver early Saturday morning, police said.

Emergency crews responded to a report of the crash at 2350 N. Beck St. — near the I-15 onramp — shortly after 12:30 a.m., according to Salt Lake police Lt. Mike Ross.

Ross said the 28-year-old woman was traveling in the northbound lane on Beck Street when a 32-year-old man driving southbound in the wrong lane collided with her vehicle head-on.

The woman was airlifted to Intermountain Medical Center in “very critical” condition, Ross said. Her name was not immediately released.

“Hopefully she’s going to be OK,” Ross added.

Ross said the man who was driving the wrong-way vehicle was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and booked into Salt Lake County Jail. His name was also not immediately released.

More information will be added as soon as it is made available.
