MURRAY — Nine felony charges were filed Thursday against a Cottonwood High School teacher accused of sexually abusing one of his students at the school.

Corbin Vance Robinson, 38, of Holladay, is charged with nine counts of sexual abuse of a minor, a third-degree felony.

A 15-year-old student said that over the past couple of months, "inappropriate texting and touching" occurred between her and Robinson, one of her teachers, on four occasions, according to charging documents filed in 3rd District Court. Those conversations allegedly included sex and Robinson's family.

"(The girl) shortly began skipping classes and spending fourth period with Robinson in his classroom, where each time Robinson would lock his classroom door, turn out the lights and close the blinds," the charges state.

She told police Robinson inappropriately touched her on four different occasions and would then drive her home.

The girl described how she touched Robinson over and under his clothing and how he similarly touched her, according to the charges. She said a janitor walked in on them once while they were hugging.

According to police, surveillance footage showed the two of them leaving the school together about 3:35 p.m. on Dec. 6. A detective interviewed Robinson, "and he admitted that he and (the girl) had conversed via Facebook, they talked about sex, he gave her rides home and that she had touched his (genitalia), skin to skin," the charging documents state.

Robinson was arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail Tuesday.

Robinson was a student teacher at Cottonwood High last year and began teaching full time this year, said Granite School District spokesman Ben Horsley. He taught social studies and was removed from the classroom after the girl reported the alleged abuse last week.

On his LinkedIn page, Robinson also lists himself as the assistant girls golf coach and says he briefly participated in a student teacher program at Hillcrest High School. Robinson also lists himself as a "student mentor" for Rose Park Elementary School.
