PROVO — Two men working at the construction of the new Provo High School were hospitalized after a beam collapsed causing them to fall at least 20 feet Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

Emergency crews responded to a report of the fall at the construction site for the new school located near 1300 N. Lakeshore Drive at approximately 4:30 p.m., according to Provo deputy fire chief Tom Augustus.

Augustus said the workers, both men in their late 20s, fell about 20 to 30 feet after an I-beam collapsed at the construction site.

The men suffered possible broken arms and back injuries, and were being evaulated at a local hospital, Augustus said.

"But they are both talking to us and doing well," he added.

The cause of the collapse is unknown, but Augustus said he expects the Occupational Safety and Health Administration will conduct the investigation.
