MURRAY — A fourth round of sexual misconduct charges were filed Tuesday against a Murray man who was the target of an Amber Alert in October following an alleged kidnapping.
Court documents now allege four teenage boys have been victimized by 37-year-old Weston Ray Kubbe. His new case, filed in 3rd District Court, charges him with two counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor, and two counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a 16- or 17-year-old, all third-degree felonies.
Charges say the victim, now 18, "came forward after seeing new report(s) involving (Kubbe) and young men where (he) learned the defendant was much older than (he) was led to believe."
Kubbe and the victim allegedly met online when the victim was 14 — sometime between the spring of 2012 and spring of 2013, court documents say.
"They chatted, exchanged phone numbers and called each other," charges state.
The two later met up at a shopping center and got into Kubbe's car, according to court documents, prepared in part by Draper police. Kubbe allegedly then drove the boy to a walking trail in a secluded area. He and the boy performed sex acts on each other there, charges say, and he attempted an additional sex act.
When the victim was 17 years old, he again met up with Kubbe, court documents say. Kubbe performed multiple sex acts on the teen, and he also performed a sex act on Kubbe, the charges state.
The new charges are part of an avalanche of allegations against Kubbe, all prompted by an Amber Alert issued Oct. 10 after police concluded an 11-year-old South Ogden boy had likely run away to be with him. Both were later found in Murray.
Court documents allege Kubbe and the 11-year-old exchanged 478 pages' worth of messages over Facebook and that he gave the boy instructions on how to run away from home.
While investigating that case, police discovered Kubbe had allegedly also convinced a 14-year-old boy to stay at his home on multiple occasions this year. Kubbe has since been charged in that case for allegedly touching that boy's genitals and giving him marijuana.
A third round of charges against Kubbe were filed Nov. 21. In that case, police say a man reached out to them in July and asked for help identifying the person who had taken advantage of him when he was 14 or 15 years old in 2010 or 2011. The man said he decided to reach out after Kubbe initiated contact over social media after years of no communication between the two.
In October, Unified police detectives were able to pair the information the man had given them with the two cases they had started investigating into the alleged incidents from this fall.
Between Kubbe's previous three cases, he is charged with object rape, two counts of child kidnapping, two counts of kidnapping, two counts of forcible sodomy, aggravated sexual abuse, forcible sexual abuse, endangerment of a child, and other offenses. Each case filed against Kubbe says he met his victim online.
Kubbe was denied bail in a hearing held Nov. 16 in connection with two of his recently filed cases. His next court hearing is scheduled for Wednesday in 3rd District Court in West Jordan. It is his first court appearance in the case filed against him Nov. 21. No court date has been scheduled in the charges filed Tuesday.
Other than the new abuse cases, Kubbe's only prior significant criminal history in Utah is an attempted burglary conviction in 2002, for which he served six months behind bars.
