LINDON — The old saying goes that curiosity killed the cat, and based on a new YouTube video, that very well may have happened to a local kitten if a Lehi resident hadn’t intervened.

Karter Kimball was driving in Utah County when he noticed something out of the corner of his eye—a small, scraggly animal with a plastic cup covering its head.

“It was behind the Aquatherm building in Lindon,” Kimball said. “At first, I thought it was a ferret or weasel of some type because it was so thin.”

When Kimball approached the animal, he realized it was actually a kitten. Completely encasing the cat’s head was a plastic cup from a fast-food restaurant.

“I saw its big eyes looking at me through the clear lid,” Kimball said. “It was scared to death.”

Kimball attempted to pull the cup from the kitten’s head, but it was firmly stuck. The cat then bolted, leading Kimball on a bizarre footrace. Though the animal was able to partially see through the clear cup, it repeatedly ran into objects as it attempted its escape.

Finally, Kimball managed to catch up to the kitten and successfully remove the cup. The animal paused for a brief moment, then dashed away.

Kimball believes that it’s a good thing he encountered the animal when he did.

“She had been stuck for some time,” he said. “She was super skinny and the ice cream was rotten.”

But in this case, thanks to a determined rescuer, the trapped kitten was able to escape with at least one of its nine lives intact.
