PROVO, Utah (AP) — The Timpanogos Cave National Monument in American Fork will be getting a new visitor center to replace the one destroyed by a fire 25 years ago.
The Daily Herald reports that BJ Cluff with the National Park Service says the delay was due to problems with getting the funding for the $3 million center. Construction is set to begin in August and the center is expected to be complete in June 2017.
Timpanogos Cave National Monument Superintendent Jim Ireland says a big part of the project will go toward realigning Highway 92 so existing parking stalls can be combined into one parking lot. Once the center is complete, visitors will no longer have to park across from the busy highway to access the center and trailhead.
