SALT LAKE CITY — An indoor skate park may look a little rough around the edges and a little intimidating, but at its core it's a place for kids to let loose, including Audrey.

“When you’re on a skateboard you just feel like you’re flying and that you’re free for a little while,” said Audrey. “You’re not always stuck or being controlled.”

With piercings and tattoos, Audrey may look a little intimidating too.

“It’s me being creative and expressing myself,” she said.

At her core, she’s a child in need. She also likes to use her drawings to express herself and all she’s been through.

“I used to go and hide underneath my bed because I knew what was coming for me,” she remembered. Audrey's seen more in her 18 years than most people see in their entire lives. “That’s why I feel so lost,” she said.

Stability's not even in her vocabulary.

“Living with my parents has been on and off,” she said. “If it wasn’t my parents, it was my aunts and uncles, or my mom’s friends or my dad’s friends.”

For the past four years, Audrey's lived in foster care wondering if there is a place she fits in. So far, there isn't.

“I’m looking for a family who will accept me for who I am and for what I’ve been through and how strong I am,” she said.
