SALT LAKE CITY — Police arrested a man Friday morning who they say kidnapped his estranged wife at gunpoint and assaulted her.

Timothy Robinson, 37, asked his cousin to drive him to his wife's mother's house near 1780 W. Shannon Circle, since he knew she was hiding there, according to police.

Robinson chased his wife into her sister's apartment, where he pointed a black handgun at her and two others in the apartment, saying "stay out of this, it doesn't concern you," according to a probable cause statement.

He then dragged his wife out of the apartment and pointed the gun at a neighbor who had heard screaming, before fleeing the area with his wife in the car. The woman said Robinson beat her repeatedly and violently pulled her hair. He said he was going to kill her for "ruining their family," according to the probable cause statement.

Eventually, she convinced her husband to take her back to her sister's apartment, where she locked the door and called 911.

Robinson was stopped as he was leaving the area, and inside the car was a pellet gun matching the description of the one witnesses referred to and a half-empty bottle of beer, according to the probable cause statement.

Police arrested Robinson, who was booked into jail on suspicion of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated assault and multiple warrants, according to Salt Lake police detective Greg Wilking.

Robinson has previously been convicted of attempted criminal homicide, according to court documents.
