OGDEN — A man who was shot and killed by a police officer as he was stabbing a woman Friday afternoon has been identified, police said.

Justin Patrick Moses, 35, stabbed a woman multiple times in front of a residence at at 437 N. 630 East around 3:30 p.m., according to Ogden police.

Police officers responded to the home after receiving a domestic violence call. After officers arrived, one officer shot and killed Moses, Ogden police said.

Moses died on the scene, and the woman was transported to a hospital in critical condition. As of Saturday, she was still in critical condition, police said.

Moses was on probation and was in the care of Adult Probation & Parole the day he was shot.

Court records indicate he was charged with lewdness in June last year, and a warrant was issued in that case on Feb. 4.

Moses pleaded guilty to several other charges last year, including retail theft, three counts of stalking and criminal trespassing.

According to Utah Department of Corrections spokeswoman Brooke Adams, Moses was placed on probation Nov. 25, 2015 in connection with class A misdemeanors of stalking and criminal trespass. He was released from jail Dec. 30, 2015 after being placed on probation.

None of the police officers were injured. The officer who shot Moses was placed on administrative leave, per department policy.

The Utah State Medical Examiner's Office, as well as the Weber County Homicide Task Force, were involved in the investigation of Friday's shooting. Police said the woman's daughter and the daughter's friend witnessed the stabbing, and investigators planned to question them about the incident.

Ogden police said the male officer who shot Moses has been a sworn police officer with the Ogden Police Department since Jan. 2013.
