FARMINGTON — St. Patrick's Day is still a few months away, but Davis County officials believe someone turned Farmington Pond green on Sunday as a possible prank.

"The Environmental Health Department has run several tests on the water and determined it to be inert, non-toxic dye that was placed in the water. The event is being investigated by Farmington Police Department as a criminal mischief type prank," the Davis County Sheriff's Office reported Sunday.

The discovery was made Sunday morning. Farmington Pond is not a source of drinking water and flows into Farmington Bay. The sheriff's office said the green water would not cause any harm to wildlife and the type of dye that was used is environmentally safe. But the water will stay green for a few days.

Questions about health concerns are being referred to the Davis Environmental Health Department at 801-525-5128.
