NORTH OGDEN — A decomposing body found Saturday in an extremely isolated area of Ogden's tallest mountain is likely that of a man reported missing more than 18 months ago, law enforcement officials say.
The Weber County Sheriff's Office made the announcement Saturday night on its Twitter account.
"Joshua Easley's ID was found with the remains. We are awaiting the (medical examiner's) report for positive identification," the tweet said.
Easley was reported missing in April 2014, and his car was found at a trail head in North Ogden around the same time, according to the sheriff's office.
The body found Saturday was discovered by a hiker about three-quarters of the way up Ben Lomond Peak, according to Lt. Lane Findlay.
"It's a real isolated, rocky area," he said, while also using words like "steep" and "rugged" to describe the area where the body was found.
The location is a two-hour hike from the shoreline trailhead, he said.
The discovery was made Saturday afternoon. By the time sheriff's investigators arrived, it was too dark to do a thorough search, Findlay said. Deputies returned to the area Sunday morning and found the body, some clothing and other personal items.
