CORINNE, Box Elder County — A Willard man is dead after the car he was driving collided head-on with a semitrailer Thursday morning about a mile east of Corinne.
Jordan Hales, 28, was killed instantly when the 1997 Subaru Legacy he was driving east crossed into the westbound lane of state Route 13 and crashed head-on with a semitrailer around 9 a.m. Hales was not wearing a seat belt, police said.
The driver and passenger in the semitrailer were not injured, the Utah Highway Patrol reported. The truck, which was carrying an empty trailer, jackknifed across the eastbound lanes and off the roadway, police said. The Subaru also came to rest on the eastbound side.
State Route 13 was shut closed to traffic between I-15 and Corinne until about noon while officers cleared debris and investigated the crash.
"(Investigators are) looking at several possibilities as to why the driver of the Subaru crossed into oncoming traffic," the Utah Highway Patrol said in a prepared statement.
