SALT LAKE CITY — A man was arrested Thursday in connection to the murder of a 24-year-old man in Sugar House.
Salt Lake City police said they believe Jeremiah Hart, 42, fatally shot Christian McDonald on Jan. 24 near 1224 E. Parkway Ave. McDonald was pronounced dead at a local hospital after a motorist found him unconscious on the ground with a gunshot wound in his torso, according to investigators.
Hart was arrested on suspicion of aggravated murder, obstruction of justice, aggravated robbery, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the Salt Lake City Police Department. He was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail.
Hart showed up at a local hospital shortly after the shooting be treated for a gunshot wound. Hospital staffers contacted police. Police originally said the two acquaintances were involved in some sort of altercation that led to each man shooting the other.
Salt Lake police said Thursday they now believe, based on numerous witness accounts, that the shooting was the result of a robbery. But investigators declined to elaborate about the robbery or discuss the extent of the relationship between the two.
After an arrest warrant was signed, detectives went out looking for Hart who had been released from the hospital. They spotted him while driving Thursday, pulled him over and arrested both him and his wife.
Daisy Hart, 22, was arrested for investigation of obstruction of justice. She "lied to detectives regarding material facts related to this homicide investigation," a police affidavit states.
Jeremiah's lengthy criminal history includes both state and federal drug charges dating back to the mid-1990s, according to court records.
