RENO, Nev. (AP) — Harvey Whittemore's lawyers are urging the Nevada Supreme Court to reject the state Bar Association's latest attempts to suspend the former lobbyist's law license.
Whittemore's license automatically was suspended temporarily when he was convicted last year of making illegal campaign contributions to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.
A federal judge has agreed to postpone his two-year prison sentence until his appeal goes before the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
The Bar Association's disciplinary panel recommended Jan. 31 that any suspension of his law license also be delayed until after the appeal.
The bar is appealing that ruling in search of an immediate suspension. But the Reno Gazette-Journal (http://tinyurl.com/oksfj4e) reports that Whittemore's lawyers filed papers Friday arguing that the bar's appeal wasn't processed properly and should be thrown out.
