CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — The Wyoming House and Senate will consider a compromise supplemental budget bill next Monday that could cut $45 million from public education over the next two years.
The Casper Star-Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/2mgsLMv ) that the budget agreement was reached Friday by a committee of lawmakers from both chambers.
Education spending has been a major issue for the Legislature this session. The account that pays for school operations, currently apportioning about $1.5 billion yearly across the state, is projected to have a 25 percent shortfall in coming years.
The Senate has pushed for deeper cuts in education than the House.
