SOUTH JORDAN -- The Oquirrh Mountain Temple got a new statue of Moroni Tuesday. A lightning strike blackened the face, arm, and trumpet of the original statue back in June.

On Tuesday, a crane hoisted the new statue to the top of the temple. Then workers helped put it into place.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints says the Moroni statues on top the temples are built to attract lightning in the case of a strike and protect the temple from burning down.
