MOAB — A man and woman visiting from Ohio died when they were hit by a vehicle on Main Street in Moab Thursday night, officials said.

Moab police and Grand County sheriff's deputies responded to the area of 540 S. Main Street just after 9 p.m. and found an elderly man and woman deceased, Moab Police Chief Bret Edge said in a news release.

The couple was trying to cross Main Street from west to east when they were hit by a southbound vehicle, Edge said. Investigators found that the couple was not in a crosswalk and the vehicle was traveling at or below the speed limit of 35 mph.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured and was cooperating with police.

The names of the deceased have not yet been released pending notification of family.
