19-year-old woman dies after crash in West Valley City, police say

WEST VALLEY CITY — A 19-year-old Kearns woman is dead after a crash on state Route 111 on Saturday morning, police said.

Holly Nickel died after the crash, which took place about 8:50 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of Route 111 and 5400 South, West Valley City police officials confirmed.

Nickel was driving south on Route 111 in the area when police say she ran a red light and hit a pickup truck. She was wearing a seatbelt but was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the pickup truck had only minor injuries.

As of 1:30 p.m., the intersection was still closed, but was estimated to reopen by 2 p.m., police said.
