HERRIMAN — Police have released the names of the two people who died in a plane crashed in Butterfield Canyon Thursday morning.
On Friday, Unified police said 34-year-old Utah Army National Guard Capt. Nicholas Thomas and Jacob McGoldrick, 37, died in the crash.
“His (Thomas) tragic death weighs heavy on our organization, and our hearts go out to the Thomas family in their time of loss,” the Utah Army National Guard said in the statement.
The two men were in an Aviat A-1B Husky two-seater plane that crashed shortly before 10 a.m. Thursday. The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash.
Both men were found dead at the scene, Unified Police Lt. Brian Lohrke said Thursday. The crash ignited a small fire that crews were able to extinguish.
Police said McGoldrick was a resident South Carolina, where his fiancé lives. His immediate family, including his mother, are in Australia, police said.
