ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) — A 51-year-old St. George woman has pleaded not guilty to causing a fatal accident by texting and driving.
The Spectrum reports Carla Brennan entered the plea to automobile homicide Wednesday. She's scheduled to appear April 23 for a hearing on a possible plea agreement.
Brennan is accused of rear-ending a car March 4, 2013, and causing that vehicle to go off the roadway and strike a couple walking on the sidewalk.
Fifty-six-year-old David Henson was flown to a hospital in critical condition and later died. His wife, Leslee Henson, suffered serious injuries but survived.
Brennan says she texted from home to say she was late for work, but investigators say the texts were sent within minutes of the accident and couldn't have come while she was home.
