SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Authorities are cracking down on drunken driving for the Fourth of July holiday.
The Utah Highway Patrol says it will be out in force for Utah's deadliest holiday.
Figures show Utah has had at least one July 4th highway fatality - and as many as 12 - since 1996. Last year there were two.
Col. Danny Fuhr of the highway patrol says he authorized 260 overtime shifts for troopers starting Wednesday night in Salt Lake County.
Fuhr says Utah is seeing a big increase in fatal crashes because people are driving too fast or failing to buckle up.
The DUI blitz will continue through Sunday.
During New Year's festivities troopers made 30 DUI arrests, and Salt Lake City police said they took 10 impaired drivers off the road during the same holiday.
