ROOSEVELT — A teenager riding his bicycle to Union High School hit a school bus Wednesday, according to Roosevelt police.

The crash happened about 7:45 a.m. at the intersection of 600 East and Lagoon Street.

The bus driver told officers she had stopped her empty bus at the stop sign on 600 East and was preparing to turn right onto Lagoon Street. She told them she had seen the teenager coming east on Lagoon Street, but he was far enough away that she felt it was safe to make the turn, officer TJ Bird said.

But as the driver turned, the teen rode out in front of her and hit the front of the bus, Bird said.

The teen, who was not wearing a helmet, suffered cuts and scrapes to his head and face that investigators described as "minor." He was taken to Uintah Basin Medical Center.

The bus driver was uninjured but was emotionally shaken up, authorities said.

The crash is still under investigation by police and the Duchesne County School District.
