SALT LAKE CITY — A man apparently upset about an arrest last year decided to voice his displeasure with the trooper who once turned him in for an alcohol-related offense by showing up at the trooper's house drunk — beer can in hand, according to police.
Gordon Tye Bell, 37, was arrested Sunday for investigation of witness tampering, trespassing, public intoxication and resisting arrest.
Bell showed up about 7 p.m. at the Salt Lake City house of a Utah Highway Patrol trooper who had called police in 2012 saying he suspected his neighbor had been driving under the influence, according to a Salt Lake County Jail report and UHP officials.
Bell was intoxicated and holding a beer when he banged on the side door of the trooper's house Sunday, the report states. Panicked family members called the trooper, who was on duty, and he rushed home. Bell then tried to write down the trooper's license plate number, Salt Lake police reported.
When the trooper arrived, Bell tried to walk away on three separate occasions when he was told police were on the way, according to the report. The trooper ended up placing Bell in custody himself and waited for Salt Lake officers to arrive and officially take him to jail.
