TOOELE COUNTY — An elderly couple was injured and two horses were killed in an accident Friday.

Around 10:15 p.m., an elderly couple was driving southbound on SR36 when two horses that had escaped from a nearby corral walked onto the road. The male driver crashed into the horses, hitting them on the passenger side of the car, Utah Highway Patrol said.

The woman suffered several lacerations. Due to her age and injury, she was flown to a nearby trauma center. The man was taken to a nearby hospital for injury. Neither of their conditions are known at this time.

Both horses were killed in the crash.

The accident closed SR36 in both directions for about an hour Friday night
