RIVERTON — Kimmie Hansen walked into her ninth-grade classroom Tuesday to see her entire family waiting to greet her. She went from family member to family member giving hugs all around, but she had no idea why they were there until she sat down at her desk.

"We're here to tell you your wish has been granted," said Trenna Widener, wish granter for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

"Really?" she said in disbelief as she jumped up and down.

Thanks to the hard work of the foundation and her family, Kimmie will fly to New Jersey next spring to meet Buddy the Cake Boss, star of the TLC reality show of the same name.

"I felt so excited and I was so happy for my life," Kimmie said.

Cake Boss is Kimmie's favorite show. Her mother, Kris, said she watches the show like other kids watch Barney. She watches the episodes over and over, and it even inspired her to pick up baking.

But Kimmie suffers from Dravet Syndrome, a rare epileptic disorder that has left her developmentally and physically impaired. In her short life, she has had over 500,000 seizures.

"I had my first seizure when I was a baby," Kimmie said. She was only 2 weeks old at the time.

A Salt Lake City family is trying desperately to help their 2-year-old son who suffers more than 100 epileptic seizures a day.

Nevertheless, she and her parents have dedicated their time to becoming an advocates for epileptics — speaking at events, participating in fundraisers, and even getting the chance to meet Gov. Gary Herbert and Rep. Jason Chaffetz.

Kimmie will not only get the chance to meet her favorite baker, Buddy Valastro, she'll also get to bake a cake. She said she wants to put a ladybug at the top of hers. She also hopes to try one of his bakery's famous cannolis.

"I'm really thrilled. This is just a neat opportunity," Kris Hansen said.
