PROVO — A Brigham Young University student is in the hospital after being the victim of a hit-and-run accident that left her with a fractured skull.
The 22-year-old female was crossing the street at 300 East and 500 North at 5:31 p.m. Wednesday when she was struck by a dark blue BMW SUV that was heading westbound on 500 North.
After striking the woman, the driver of the vehicle pulled over, paused and then sped away without offering assistance to the woman, according to Provo Police detective Robert Payne.
The woman fractured her skull and is currently in stable condition in a local hospital. Payne said she was crossing the street legally in an intersection at the time of the accident.
The woman was not able to describe the driver, but the SUV suffered significant damage to its front end at the scene of the accident.
"We recovered a lot of debris at the scene of the accident, and that's where we got the information about the SUV," Payne said.
Payne said anyone who witnesses a tragic accident and has information about it should call police. Witnesses to this accident or anyone who may have information about the driver of the SUV can call Provo police at 801-852-6210.
