ATLANTA (AP) — Federal prosecutors in Atlanta say a man posed as a booking agent for famous entertainers and scammed colleges, universities and others by fraudulently booking shows.
U.S. Attorney Byung J. "BJay" Pak said in a news release Friday that 26-year-old Octaveon Woods of Decatur, Illinois, faces wire fraud and money laundering charges.
Prosecutors say Woods claimed to represent entertainers including hip-hop artists Migos, Lil Yachty and Lil Uzi Vert. Student groups at Emory University, the University of Missouri and others hired Woods' companies to book the artists.
Prosecutors say Woods had no relationship with the artists. They say he moved booking payments to other accounts and withdrew them as cash.
In an email, defense attorney John Lovell said he couldn't comment because he didn't yet have enough information on the charges.
