TV LAND — Halloween season is upon us, and with it comes a bevy of entertainment choices that range from trite to terrifying.

These shows are harmless and good fun, especially if you like a little tingle up your spine every now and then. Happy haunting!

'The Twilight Zone' (1959-1964)

A true classic, the mind-bending stories on this show will stay with you long after the episodes end. Check out “The Hitch-Hiker” episode for a spooky road trip. Available to stream on Hulu.

'Scooby-Doo' (2002-2006)

==================================================================================

Knowing you’re out of the woods in terms of actual scary bad guys (depending on your fear of real estate agents), you can enjoy the whole gang’s hijinks and terrible jokes as they solve mysteries about what’s going bump in the night. Available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

'Are You Afraid of the Dark?' (1990-2000)

================================================================================================

Monsters, zombies, ghosts and more abound in this anthology show about scary stories told around a campfire. Some might resonate with you as being scarier than others, depending on your personal boogeyman. Available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.

'So Weird' (1999-2001)

A girl who blogs about her supernatural and paranormal encounters travels around dealing with the ghosties and ghoulies that plague other people.

This gem is not available to stream, so if you need a substitute try “Goosebumps” or the above recommendations.

'The Addams Family' (1964-1966)

Anything that has endured this long, with television and movie iterations, is worth embracing during spooky season. A kooky, ooky family with some quirks that err on the side of gruesome, they’re good for laughs and shudders. Available to stream on Hulu.

'A Series of Unfortunate Events' (2017-present)

With its fair share of monsters (leeches! snakes!) and mayhem, the tragedy-prone Baudelaire orphans have to navigate some tricky waters (literally) as a group of sinister adults attempt to apprehend them — and their fortune. Watch the show's intro for more. It’s hilarious and informative. Available to stream on Netflix.
