North Carolina interim chancellor Lee Roberts publicly backed athletics director Bubba Cunningham on Thursday. That came three days after the school's board of trustees approved an audit of the athletics department due to financial concerns growing amid the volatile landscape of college sports. Roberts also said the athletics department has been audited 10 times in the past five years, as well as annually by the NCAA. Trustees earlier this week expressed concern about revenues in a time of conference realignment. That includes the Atlantic Coast Conference falling further behind the Big Ten and Southeastern Conference in payouts to member schools.

According to the lawsuit, Blackhawks CEO Dan Wirtz hired her in 2020 to serve as a liaison with tribes pushing the team to change its name. She alleges that Wirtz promised to create positions for American Indians and promised to change the team's name if she came to work for him but never followed through. Caitlin Clark has helped increase the popularity of women's basketball, and the amount of money bet on it. The former Iowa star, who began her professional career Tuesday with the WNBA's Indiana Fever, is the subject of intense interest from gamblers. But sportsbooks say that interest will spill over into other women's sports this year, particularly Olympic soccer and basketball. BetMGM says over 68% of bettors plunked money down on Clark to be the league's most valuable player. Sportsbooks say three of Clark's final college games were the most bet-on women's sports events ever.

That loyalty was rewarded when Jensen was elevated to head coach after Bluder announced her retirement. The program will be entering a transition period with the departures of superstar Caitlin Clark and fellow starters Kate Martin and Gabbie Marshall. Jensen said she won't lower her expectations, and she expects the same from her players.

It is part of a larger conservative movement in parts of the Catholic Church. The college also is home to more traditional expressions of Catholicism, such as the Latin Mass, all-night prayer vigils and a strict code of conduct.

With the future of the Atlantic Coast Conference in question, commissioner Jim Phillips expressed optimism that the league can still be salvaged. Speaking at the ACC meetings in Amelia Island, Phillips says you have to "work through these things." The ACC has experienced significant change in the past six months, most notably with Florida State and the league suing each other in December. Clemson followed suit, and North Carolina could be next. The ACC is adding Stanford, California and SMU this summer, making it a 17-team, coast-to-coast football conference. But the additions have done little to close the ACC's growing financial gap behind the SEC and the Big Ten.

The University of California Board of Regents special committee on athletics voted 7-1 during a meeting at UC Merced on Tuesday to cut down the length of the payments. UC president Michael Drake recommended six years in a report going into the meeting. The matter will come up again on Thursday for a vote by the full Board of Regents. If there is a significant change in revenues and/or expenses for either school, exceeding 10% over 2024-25 projections, UCLA's contribution can be reevaluated by the regents.
