DRAPER — Heavy rescue crews pulled a fallen paraglider off the Point of the Mountain after he dropped approximately 50 feet, officials said.
At about 4:41 p.m., Unified Fire recieved a 911 call about a 41-year-old paraglider who had fallen at the Point of the Mountain flight park, according to Capt. Clint Mecham with Unified Fire Authority.
The injured paraglider complained of back pain, and a medical helicopter was called in. However, crews on scene determined the injured did not warrant an air evacuation and the helicopter was cancelled, Mecham said.
Crews were able to get access to the fallen paraglider by foot on the mountain. A haul system was rigged and crews brought the man down, Mecham said. He was transported to a local hospital by ambulance.
What caused the fall is still under investigation. It is not clear whether an equipment failure is to blame, whether the man failed to clear the mountain.
