SALT LAKE CITY — Two men are in critical condition following an early-morning crash in Parley’s Canyon, officials said.
The crash was reported just after 6 a.m. Saturday on westbound I-80, according to Utah Highway Patrol Cpl. Andrew Battenfield. A Ford F250 truck with two men in their 30s veered into the center median and then went between two bridges on the highway near Lambs Canyon, about 10 miles east of Salt Lake City.
The truck landed upside down on Lambs Canyon road, below the I-80 overpass, officials said.
Authorities first got calls reporting the crash about 6 a.m., but it is unclear exactly when the crash took place, Battenfield said. The crash was reported by two people who were out for a morning run in Lambs Canyon, UHP officials said on the agency's website.
One of the men was trapped in the vehicle when crews arrived on the scene. He was airlifted via a medical helicopter to a hospital in critical condition, Battenfield said.
The other man was walking near the vehicle when crews arrived and was later transported in an ambulance to a hospital in fair condition, Battenfield said. He was later downgraded to critical condition, he said.
Both men were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.
Authorities were investigating impairment as a possible contributing factor in the crash, UHP officials said. The truck was reported stolen from the Wasatch Front, Battenfield said.
