SOUTH SALT LAKE — A bar where a shooting took place over the weekend is apparently shutting down.

A bar employee for Scallywags, 3040 S. State, declined to speak to KSL, but confirmed the bar was closing for good. The decision comes after a fight and shooting left two people injured early Sunday morning.

The shooting happened after a fight inside the bar. Two men were escorted out by security, but the fight resumed and more people joined after when they got outside, South Salt Lake Police Sgt. Matt Oehler said. At least two men then went to their vehicles and began shooting at the crowd, Oehler said.

Stephano Tuisila, 22, of West Jordan, and Falefatu Fatiau, 27, of Orem, were later arrested in connection with the shooting. Police were still looking to identify a possible third shooter. In all, police believed more than a dozen shots were fired.

A woman, who investigators believe was a bystander, was shot three times, Oehler said. She was expected to survive. A man also received serious injuries after being attacked in the bar, according to Oehler.

Oehler added it was “amazing more people weren’t injured.”

Although he didn’t know how many times police had been called to the bar, South Salt Lake police detective Gary Keller said Sunday’s incident wasn’t the first time police had been called there.

“We’ve had some calls,” he said. We’ve had different altercations there and stuff like that. Sometimes it’s in the parking lot and sometimes it’s in the bar.”

It wasn’t immediately clear when the bar will close.
