SALT LAKE CITY — A gas leak near the Grand America Hotel created some issues for commuters Friday morning.

Fire crews received a report of a gas leak near 600 S. Main St. shortly after 9 a.m., according to Salt Lake City fire spokeswoman Audra Sorensen.

Firefighters arriving at the scene came across "a high concentration of natural gas in the soil on the southwest corner of 500 South and Main Street," Sorenson added in a news release.

Crews then closed off Main Street from 500 South to 700 South and asked Utah Transit Authority to halt its trains from crossing the area until the leak was fixed. Sorenson said two floors of the hotel, located 555 S. Main St., were also evacuated.

The origin of the leak was later located and fixed by Dominion Energy crews about noon, Sorenson said.

No injuries or illnesses were reported.

Editor's note: The Salt Lake City fire spokeswoman's last name, "Sorensen," was previously misspelled. That has been corrected to reflect the correct spelling.
