WELLINGTON — Water was restored in unincorporated Carbon County and Wellington two days after a main break left 1,500 residents without water or with low pressure Tuesday, officials said.

Carbon County and Wellington declared a state of emergency Tuesday morning saying the failures were straining county resources beyond their capability, affecting public safety and creating "agricultural impacts in an already declared drought disaster."

The break occurred Friday night south of Price in Miller Creek, and was followed by another break nearby, according to Whitney Waterfall, county emergency services specialist. A third, bigger main, which serves unincorporated areas, cracked near U.S. 6, northwest of Price, on Monday morning.

Though water has been restored to all residents, there are large quantities of air trapped in the main line that crews are finding difficult to remove, the Carbon County Sheriff's Office said in a Facebook post.

"You will notice when water gets to your home that there will be a lot of air for the first while. Also, the water may appear cloudy or milky," the post reads. "The water is and will be safe to drink, but air dissolves into the water creating the cloudiness or milky appearance. If you set a glass of water out for a few minutes, you will see it clear by itself. The best course of action is to fill a pitcher and put it in the refrigerator. When you want a drink, the water will be clear."
