LAYTON — The investigation into an alleged serial peeping Tom who seemed to focus on a Layton apartment complex continued Tuesday.
Steve Callen, 31, of Roy, was scheduled to be back in court Tuesday on charges that he secretly recorded women with his phone through their windows on several occasions.
According to a search warrant unsealed Monday in 2nd District Court, Callen was spotted between May 7 and May 22 at Overlook at Sunset Point, 2955 N. Hill Field Road.
Apartment managers warned Callen that he would be cited for trespassing if he returned to the property, the warrant states.
On May 22, he was spotted at the complex again. Police were called and chased him down.
"(Callen) admitted to being in the area to look into the apartment window of the female victim," the warrant states, noting that he didn't know the woman. "At the time, (Callen) consented to show officers limited photos and videos from his cellphone which were images of the victim in nude and sexual acts," according to the warrant.
Upon further investigation, detectives found at least four tenants who said they believed Callen "was either watching them from their window or inside of their apartment," the warrant states.
Callen was arrested and later charged, but that didn't stop him from returning to the apartment complex.
In July, he "was subsequently arrested in the same apartment complex for voyeurism and criminal trespass against a new victim," the warrant states.
For the May 22 arrest, Callen was charged in 2nd District Court with five counts of voyeurism by electronic equipment, a class A misdemeanor; stalking, a class A misdemeanor; five counts of trespassing, a class B misdemeanor; and interfering with an arrest, a class B misdemeanor.
According to charging documents, Callen has a prior conviction for voyeurism, and Layton police received three calls between August 2016 and April 2017 about a prowler who turned out to be Callen.
For his July 21 arrest, Callen was charged in 2nd District Court with voyeurism and trespassing, both class B misdemeanors. He was scheduled to appear in court on both cases Tuesday.
Layton Police Lt. Travis Lyman said the May and July cases involve different victims.
Investigators are unsure why Overlook at Sunset Point was targeted, Lyman said, adding that Callen has no ties to the apartment complex.
The complex is located near Hill Air Force Base's south gate along state Route 193, which Lyman said made it easy to access.
