SALT LAKE CITY — Police are investigating a possible murder-suicide after a husband and wife were found dead inside their Sugar House home Sunday morning, police said.
Police responded after a woman reported finding the bodies of her mother and father inside a home near 1600 E. Wasatch Circle shortly after 12:20 a.m., according to Salt Lake police.
Police identified the two as Mark May, 64, and Nancy May, 55, who resided at the home.
Nancy May’s cause of death was still being determined by the Utah State Medical Examiner's Office Monday, Salt Lake Police Sgt. Brandon Shearer said. Mark May died by suicide.
Shearer said evidence recovered at the scene led police to believe the deaths were caused in a murder-suicide but did not specify what that evidence was.
“We believe that he probably killed her, but (we don’t know) until the medical examiner’s office tells us that,” Shearer said.
Shearer said the case remains under investigation.
Police did not disclose a possible motive and added the couple had no known history of domestic violence. According to their Facebook pages, the couple had been married since 1988.
