LOGAN — Two new rape cases were filed Friday against former Utah State University football standout Torrey Green, who is already behind bars facing charges in five separate incidents.
The two cases were among six reports that came to police after Green was charged last month, the Cache County Attorney's Office said Friday.
Green is charged in each case with a single count of rape, a first-degree felony, with one incident alleged to have occurred in October 2014 and another in August 2015, according to court documents. Details of those allegations were not immediately released.
Two more cases remain under investigation, and charges were not filed in the final two either because of a lack of evidence or the victims' decision not to seek prosecution, according to prosecutors.
Defense attorney Skye Lazaro, who will represent Green in all seven cases, declined comment about the new charges Friday.
Cache County Attorney James Swink said in a prepared statement that his office is "committed to protecting victims of sexual assault and assisting them through the healing process."
"We encourage the reporting of sexual assault to law enforcement but respect the right of victims to decide whether or not to go forward with prosecution," Swink said. "When sufficient evidence exists to pursue prosecution, the county attorney's office uses all available resources to hold the perpetrators accountable."
A recently signed rookie linebacker, Green was dropped by the Atlanta Falcons in August after allegations surfaced that he had sexually assaulted multiple women during his time at USU.
Green, who is from Rubidoux, California, graduated from USU this spring.
Following his arrest in California, Green was extradited to the Cache County Jail, where he remained Friday. A bail hearing is scheduled for Dec. 13 in the original five cases.
Green is charged with single counts of rape, a first-degree felony, for assaults alleged to have occurred between November 2013 and January 2016. He is charged in the fifth case with aggravated kidnapping, a first-degree felony, and forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony, for an incident alleged to have occurred in October 2014.
Four women reported they were on a date with Green and ended up at his apartment, where he sexually assaulted them in his bedroom. A fifth said she ran into Green at a party in his apartment complex and went back to his room with him. All five women told police that, as Green restrained them and removed their clothing, they physically fought Green and told him to stop.
One woman, who met Green on USU's campus, said he physically carried her into his bedroom where he raped her, then asked, "You aren't the kind of girl that would report rape? Because that would ruin my career."
In total, prosecutors said they have received 14 complaints against Green.
In a statement released after allegations against Green went public in August, USU said it generally found no victims were discouraged from reporting an assault or pursuing an investigation, and no athletes received special treatment. University officials said they would work to improve reporting policies and communication with local police.
USU officials said this summer they would look at how the school handled allegations in the Green case while it was undergoing a broader review of the way the university investigates sexual assault.
