OGDEN — Police arrested a man Friday who is charged with abandoning his 5-year-old daughter in the middle of the night at a technical college in Ogden.
Adrian Justin Sanchez, 41, was arrested without incident Friday, a day after police announced that a warrant had been issued for his arrest and asked for information to locate him. Ogden police posted a video of the arrest on Facebook, along with a message thanking the public for their concern about the investigation.
Sanchez was charged Wednesday with child abandonment, a third-degree felony, and is accused of leaving his young daughter alone in the cold for hours at the Ogden-Weber Applied Technology College on Oct. 9.
Sanchez is scheduled to make an initial court appearance on Monday.
According to police, Sanchez took the girl to the college about 5:15 a.m. that morning, gave her his coat and a blanket, and told her to stay by the back door of the building that houses the children's school, leaving her alone in the dark with the temperature just above freezing.
A security guard patrolling the grounds spotted the girl on the sidewalk about two hours later at 7:30 a.m. The girl was cold, shaking and crying when she was found, according to the college's head of security.

The girl, who was released to her mother, told police she didn't know why Sanchez had left her and that she called out to him as he left but he didn't come back.
A search of court records indicates a woman requested a protective order against Sanchez two days after the girl was abandoned, but was denied. A child custody and support case dating back to December involving Sanchez and the same woman is also ongoing.
Sanchez pleaded guilty in Ogden Justice Court last year to misdemeanor intoxication charges in two separate cases, according to court records. He pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct in 2010, intoxication in 2006, giving false information to a police officer in 2006, and driving under the influence in 2004.
