ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — President Barack Obama's health care overhaul is getting its first test of the 2014 midterm elections in a Tampa-area House district where Democrats are trying to counter GOP attacks on the law.
Democrat Alex Sink and Republican David Jolly are vying for the seat vacated when Rep. Bill Young died in October after serving in Congress for more than 40 years.
Polls opened at 7 a.m. Tuesday and will close at 7 p.m.
The race for the 13th congressional district seat, considered a tossup, has attracted nearly $9 million in outside money. Ads for Sink and Jolly have inundated mailboxes and airwaves in recent weeks. A third candidate, Libertarian Lucas Overby, is also running.
