LAS VEGAS (AP) — Derick Newton had 22 points and 11 rebounds — both career highs — and Brian Pegg added 16 and 10 to help Stetson pull away for an 83-70 win over Bethune-Cookman on Thursday night in the Las Vegas Invitational.

Newton made 8 of 13 field goals, including two 3-pointers, while Pegg hit 7 of 10 shots. Divine Myles added 14 points and a career-high 11 assists for Stetson (2-3).

The Hatters will play East Carolina while Bethune-Cookman (2-3) will take on Sam Houston State on Friday.

Grant Lozoya hit a 3-pointer to put Stetson up 51-37 with just fewer than 16 minutes to play but Bethune-Cookman scored 17 of the next 26 to pull within six, 60-54, with nine minutes left.

Newton hit two free throws and Myles made a 3 to push Stetson's lead back to double figures and the Wildcats didn't threaten again.

Jordan Potts led Bethune-Cookman with 23 points.
